History

High Bickington FC has much history! The club itself has been around for atleast 80 years with the oldest recorded success being a Minor Division championship win in the 1934-1935 season (the first Minor Division championship competition).

Since then the club has risen into higher leagues and as the village has grown in population, the team has grown in size and stature with two teams formed to bare the High Bickington FC name. Other titles include;

  Division II (now Intermediate 2) Champions 1966-67 and 1997-98

  Division I (now Intermediate 1) Champions 1961-62 and 1998-99

  Senior Champions 1999-00

However, even with this impressive record, one trophy has proved so far elusive to the teams cabinet. The Premier Division title. Although the club managed to storm all three lower divisions in consecutive seasons, the 2000-01 season was sadly abandoned due to the foot and mouth outbreak. After the 'gap' season High Bickington never recovered their previous form and it is likely that this was the most significant contributing factor as to why the club never managed to achieve the status of Premier Division Champions.

But what about the Cups? Well, the first of only two cup victories in the clubs history was a Division III Cup title back in the 1936-37 season. The second being a Combe Martin Cup title in 1978-79. A series of more recent cup finals have been reached by the club but the failure to jump the last hurdle has become frustrating, yet all too familiar story.

In the 05/06 season the club decided to enter only one team into the North Devon League due to the uncertaintanty of the clubs ability to field two full teams on a regular basis. So far this decision has been maintained but the option of returning a second team is considered every season and is a certain possibility if squad numbers were to rise once more.
